Dedication and Acknowledgements
First, a dedication to my dad who, while an armchair traveler himself, was always keen on hearing about my travels and offering encouragement from early on to see the world. And I am!
This website started out as a printed book and has been a labor of love over a number of years. It’s based on my real life experience of traveling around the U.S. and around the world. Notes and memories from those past travels, conversations with fellow travelers and travel professionals, and considerable research have gone into the book’s preparation. As with most things in the 21st Century, the world of travel is rapidly evolving. The original book which I printed in late 2011 quickly became out of date due to changes in websites, airline and rental car policies, among others. The core concepts discussed should, however, remain pertinent for years to come. So that the concepts and information that I've developed over the years can reach a broader audience, I'm sharing it on this website.
While ideas and experiences of a number of people have influenced what I’ve written, I owe deep gratitude to several who have helped bring thse words and images to fruition. First, to Alyse McConnell, my life coach, who finally got me to complete a draft of the book in record time after it languished far too long. Then to my friend and first round editor, Laurie McCray, whose keen eye made the text a far better “read.” Finally, special thanks to my fellow traveler and spouse, Gillian Allard, for not only traveling with me to places far and near, but also for her edits and for the original formatting of the text for publication (for which I’m very thankful). And definitely don’t blame Laurie or Gillian for any errors, typos or misstatements – they are mine, all mine.
